Development
DEVELOPMENT
Every vehicle application and requirement is different.
Working in close partnership with our customers helps us to design, develop
and manufacture a component that corresponds exactly to customer and vehicle
needs.
Many factors are taken into consideration during wheel design to ensure that
the lifecycle of the wheel is suitable for the duty cycle of the machine it
will run on. With such a safety-critical component, peace of mind and confidence
can only come from the knowledge that the wheel has been developed by skilled
and experienced engineers.
HIGH SPEED WHEELS
HIGH SPEED WHEELS
As the needs of the European Tractor Market grow more sophisticated every day,
so does the technology of the individual components. The redesign of tractor
drivelines and axles to compensate for higher speeds has impacted on wheel and
tyre assembly. In response, Titan has developed the most advanced manufacturing
techniques to ensure that the optimum « round » wheel is created
and these high speed wheels are uniquely designed to be used comfortably both
on and off the highway.

SURFACE TREATMENT BY E-COATING
TITAN France SAS, member of the Group TITAN Europe Plc, has specialized in
surface treatment for 25 years and obtained the ISO 9001-2000 Certification
in November 2003.
TITAN France was the first French medium-sized company, as far back as 1980,
to equip itself with a complete line of surface treatment and e-coating. The
equipment, in the form of a tunnel with a continuous conveyor, meets orders
received, particularly from car manufacturers, and subcontractors of highly
technical products.
3 working shifts meet the very short deadlines requested by our customers. Our
reactivity, mixed with optimum quality, constitute the two most important advantages
of TITAN France. We can treat more than 100 000 parts per day for surfaces exceeding
5 000 sqm.
Quality requirements concerning resistance of metallic parts to corrosion do
not stop increasing. TITAN France wants to get very high level performances
with regard to protection against corrosion and resistance of the treated elements.
That is the reason why TITAN France has selected for the supplying its paints,
binding agents and products for dry cleaning and phosphation, the companies
PPG and HENKEL which are well-known for the impeccable quality of their products
and their involvement in safety and the environment.
A permanent control of all the processes is done by our laboratory which guarantees
quality and the follow-up of all the treated parts :
- salt spray room
- measuring of the thickness
- adherence tests.
To respect the environment is one of TITAN France’s concern :
- a purification station treats process waters
waste waters are regularly analyzed so that they conform to the legislation
Page 11 : PREPARATION
E-coat treatment is a technology which permits the application of a paint coating on a metallic support (steel, casting, …) by electrodeposition in order to improve protection against corrosion.
PREPARATION OF THE SURFACES :
The operations, which are all made by sprinkling ,are as follows :
- alkaline dry cleaning, regularly drained off
- cold rinsing, continuously supplied with new water
- microcrystalline zinc phosphatation with a low-weight coat
- cold rinsing
- rinsing with demineralized water
Page 12 : COATING
E-COATING
The applied paint film gives the following properties :
- excellent adherence in case of corrosion
- black even appearance
- thickness included between 10 and 25 microns even in empty bodies, ridges
- respect of the tolerances on threads and tappings
- good hardness
- resistance to chemical products
- resistance to gravelling
The coating is made in a tank of 13 000 litres and the equipment is composed of an anodic set, a mixing circuit, an ultrafiltration unit, a cooling circuit and a station to produce demineralized water.
The electrodeposition lasts 120 seconds. The operation is immediately followed by 3 rinsings in series with ultrafiltrat and then by a lateral blowing of the parts with ambient air.
The exceptional adherence in case of corrosion implies a perfect preparation of the surface. It is also the result of an excellent penetration of the paint.
Page 13 : CHARACTERISTICS
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE E-COAT EQUIPMENT
The equipment is in the form of a tunnel with a continuous supply, which permits
the treatment of medium-sized parts.
The different stages are as follows :
- preparation of surfaces by sprinkling in a six-stage tunnel
- coating by cathodic electrodeposition
- baking of the coating
Its usable gauge is :
- length 600 mm
- width 450 mm
- height 750 mm
It permits the treatment of a very large range of parts such as wiper-blades
or an agricultural wheel which is
650 mm in diameter and weighs about 65 kg.
The equipment is served by a 4’’ CFC conveyor with a length of 320
m and with a running speed of 2m40 per minute, for 400 trolleys with an eighty-centimetre
gap between each of them.
The distance between two holders is 812 mm. The chemical surface treated in
one hour is about 300 sqm.

GREY PAINT
The different stages of this process are as follows :
Alkaline dry cleaning of the part
The aim of dry cleaning is to eliminate greases
The dry cleaning is effective on all the greases (animal, vegetable and mineral
greases)
Phosphatating of the parts
The aim of phosphatating is to put a crystalline coating on the metal
The type of phosphatate used is an Iron phosphatate
Electrodeposition
The paint which is electrodeposited on the part is of the type grey POWERCRON
The thickness of the paint varies according to the metal nature, from 15 up
to
25 microns.
The paint is free of lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium
Gloss paint
It is possible to put a coloured gloss paint on parts : yellow, red, grey…
The thickness « e-coat + gloss paint » is 50 microns minimum.
SIZES OF TREATED PARTS
The surface treatment is made by sprinkling.
The electrodeposition is made by immersion. The adherence to salt spray is 400
hours.
The parts to treat are hung on a chain with holders. The dimensions of hung
parts must respect the following sizes (maximum weight : 200 kg) :
- height 1 800 mm
- width 600 mm
- length 1800 mm
